About Kevin Babington Foundation:

In late August 2019, Kevin experienced a life-altering moment when he suffered a complete spinal cord injury following a fall during the 2019 Grand Prix at the Hampton Classic Horse Show in Bridgehampton, NY, United States. In early September, Kevin underwent a critical surgery to stabilize the vertebrae in his neck. By mid-October of that same year, he had made significant progress, transitioning from relying on a ventilator for breathing to facing the challenge of being paralyzed from the neck down. Remarkably, just two months later, Kevin began teaching from his wheelchair. Today, he remains on a determined journey, actively participating in experimental stem cell therapy, holding onto the hope of regaining movement below the neck.

This life-altering event marked the inception of the Kevin Babington Foundation, which was established in 2019. Kevin Babington Foundation (KBF) has been created to provide funding and support for Equestrian Show Jumping Athletes who sustain spinal injuries. In addition to providing financial assistance the foundation will also strive to educate riders, trainers and show organizers about the most current safety measures designed to reduce the risk of serious injuries which can occur while riding.

Laura Kraut Joins The MAC Express: A Champion’s Perspective on Victory and Rider Safety

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wellington, FL – August 18, 2025

The Kevin Babington Foundation is proud to present a landmark episode of the podcast channel, The MAC Express, featuring an exclusive and heartfelt conversation with Laura Kraut, fresh off her commanding win at the Dublin Horse Show, where she stood alone as the only clear round in a dramatic finale.

This episode is more than a victory lap—it’s a rallying cry for rider safety and the future of our sport.

As part of the Foundation’s growing media platform, The MAC Express has been instrumental in elevating critical conversations around safety, innovation, and community. Laura’s appearance is a powerful example of what it means to lead both in and out of the arena.

Her quote from our inaugural #IWearAVestBecause campaign has now surpassed 300,000 views across social media, igniting a global response. Riders from all levels are engaging in the movement—proof that when respected voices speak up, change follows.

“I wear a safety vest because I was told by a doctor that it would help me in the event of a fall. The doctor is a rider—both horses and motorcycles—and he said that I would be foolish to not wear one.

I have had multiple falls since I began wearing one and I can attest to his claim—my falls were definitely less severe because I was wearing the vest.” – Laura Kraut

The Power of Partnership

In alignment with our mission to make safety more accessible and accepted across the sport, the Kevin Babington Foundation recently announced a major partnership with Seaver, the leading manufacturer of air vest technology. A special edition KBF x Seaver Air Vest, featuring the iconic “I Ride for Kevin” emblem, will be unveiled at the upcoming Silver Oak Jumper Tournament in Traverse City.

This innovation marks a new chapter—one where protection and performance go hand in hand.

A Movement, Not Just a Moment

We may never fully quantify the number of injuries prevented by air vests. But we know this: Every story matters. Every rider protected is one fewer tragedy endured. And as the sport evolves, so too must our approach to safety.

“I get the calls when it goes wrong,” said Jeff Papows, Chairman of the Kevin Babington Foundation. “But I also hear from riders who say, ‘That vest saved me.’ That’s why we keep pushing.”

The Kevin Babington Foundation and Seaver Unite in a Groundbreaking Safety Partnership

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wellington, FL – July 29, 2025

The Kevin Babington Foundation is proud to announce a powerful new partnership with Seaver, naming the innovative equestrian technology company the Official Safety Vest Manufacturer of both the Kevin Babington Foundation and the Silver Oak Jumper Tournament.

“I am so excited to have Seaver be a part of such an impactful foundation,” says Zakaria Antar, CEO of Seaver. “We hope to bring more awareness and education to the sport and the Kevin Babington Foundation will be the perfect partner to help us achieve that goal.”

This collaboration marks a pivotal step forward in the Foundation’s mission to advance rider safety, awareness, and education across the sport of show jumping. As the equestrian community continues to evolve, the need for cutting-edge protective equipment has never been greater. With Seaver’s industry-leading air vests and the Foundation’s unwavering commitment to advocacy and recovery, this partnership is more than symbolic—it’s a call to action.

“I’m inspired every day by the sport and the courageous individuals the Kevin Babington Foundation stands behind,” said Jeff Papows, Chairman of the Foundation. “My own time in service taught me that support and solidarity are everything. No one serves—or rides—alone. That’s why I’m especially proud to partner with Seaver, a company that shares our deep commitment to protecting and uplifting riders.”

Seaver’s technology-driven air vests represent a leap forward in equestrian safety. Designed to detect and respond to falls in milliseconds, these vests help reduce the risk of severe spinal or internal injuries. Through this partnership, Seaver will create a limited-edition vest featuring the “I Ride for Kevin” logo—a unifying symbol of support for Kevin Babington, Jonathan Millar, Kim Prince, and the many riders whose stories continue to inspire a global community.

“Show jumping is the world’s most beautiful sport,” added Papows, “but it’s also among the most dangerous. We must do better by our riders—and that begins with education, innovation, and real change.”

With this partnership, Seaver becomes the exclusive air vest provider for both the Kevin Babington Foundation and the Silver Oak Jumper Tournament, underscoring a shared commitment to proactive rider safety.

Together, we ride forward—with purpose, with protection, and with each other.

Life in Motion: Summer Updates from Jonathon Millar & Kevin Babington

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wellington, FL – July 24, 2025

Summer is in full swing, and there’s no slowing down for Jonathon Millar and Kevin Babington. The Kevin Babington Foundation recently caught up with both of these incredible horsemen to see what they’ve been up to — and let’s just say, they’re making every moment count.

For Jonathon, being back in the show ring has been nothing short of rejuvenating. He’s been riding and competing full-time, feeling strong and confident in the 1.25m classes.

“Getting back into the ring has brought back so much joy,” he shared. “I’m loving every second of it.”

Meanwhile, Kevin Babington continues to inspire, both in and out of the ring. His days are packed — giving 3 to 5 lessons daily, working with dedicated students in Florida, and even staying connected to his winter-season riders through virtual training sessions.

“I’ve actually gotten pretty good at this virtual coaching,” Kevin laughed. “Who knew I’d become so tech-savvy?”

In true Kevin fashion, he’s taken his passion for teaching to new heights. This week, he traveled to the World Equestrian Center – Ocala with three of his students to support them as they compete. His knowledge, encouragement, and sheer love of the sport continue to elevate everyone around him.

Beyond the arena, Kevin has been contributing to research with the Miami Project — further proof that his impact reaches far beyond the saddle.

When asked who he’s been watching on ClipMyHorse.TV, Kevin didn’t hesitate:

“Scott Brash — he’s riding better than ever. He’s clearly done the work, and it shows. Watching him at the European Championships has been phenomenal.”

From the ground to the screen, Kevin and Jonathan remind us what it means to keep pushing forward, doing what you love, and inspiring others along the way.
