Traverse City, MI – Sept. 5, 2025
The Silver Oak Jumper Tournament, benefitting the Kevin Babington Foundation, kicked off its international competition in electrifying fashion on opening day with the Muny Sunk Stables FEI 3* Power and Speed class. Spectators were treated to a showdown that came down to fractions of a second, setting the tone for an unforgettable week of top-class sport.
Ireland’s Richie MOLONEY aboard SKELWITH DIAMOND LADY captured the win in dramatic style, stopping the clock just 0.04 seconds ahead of American rider Kelli CRUCIOTTI VANDERVEEN and MOCHITO V/D MISHAGEN, who delivered a lightning-fast round that nearly stole the victory. Rounding out the podium was Mexico’s Maya Ines DENIS CHAMBON with JANTIEN DE MUZE, whose fluid performance kept the pressure high throughout the competition.
The razor-thin margin between Moloney and Cruciotti-Vanderveen underscored the excitement of the Power and Speed format, where precision and bold riding are tested against the clock. The crowd roared as each round grew faster, with the top three separated by the slimmest of margins.
“That class was absolutely thrilling from start to finish,” said Christine Vanneck of Muny Sunk Stables, the proud sponsor of the FEI 3* Power and Speed. “To see it decided by just four one-hundredths of a second shows the incredible talent of these riders and horses. We’re so excited to be part of such a special event that not only celebrates world-class sport but also supports the Kevin Babington Foundation and its mission.”
Tournament Chairman Jeff Papows praised the level of competition and the energy of the opening day:
“This is exactly what the Silver Oak Jumper Tournament is all about—elite sport, incredible horses, and a community united for a cause. Thanks to Muny Sunk Stables and Christene Vanneck, today’s class was one of the most thrilling in our history.”
With the first day in the books, all eyes now turn to the rest of the week as top riders from around the globe continue to battle it out in pursuit of international victories and FEI ranking points.
The Silver Oak Jumper Tournament, recognized as “the rider’s horse show,” continues through the weekend, showcasing world-class equestrian sport while raising awareness and support for the Kevin Babington Foundation, dedicated to rider safety and support within the equestrian community.
